Nemo is a complete fork of Nautilus and its goal is to extend the Cinnamon user experience to desktop and file management. Nemo has features like: compact view, all desktop icons, etc.. which are not available in latest nautilus versions, Open in terminal and open as root, File operation progress while copy/move files shows percentage and details, Has nice GTK bookmarks management, up/forward/back and refresh buttons, Nice proper status bar, better search, better widgets and many more.

Note:

• If you are going to install Cinnamon then first remove this PPA also Nemo because Cinnamon PPA contains Nemo File Manager.
• If you have Cinnamon or you are on Linux Mint then don't install Nemo from this PPA. It can create other problems.

To install Nemo File Manager in Ubuntu 13.10/13.04/12.10/12.04 open Terminal (Press Ctrl+Alt+T) and copy the following commands in the Terminal:

Terminal Commands:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:noobslab/mint
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install nemo

Install Extensions for Nemo File Manager in Ubuntu 13.10/13.04/12.10/12.04, First add PPA then install:

sudo apt-get install nemo-compare nemo-dropbox nemo-fileroller nemo-pastebin nemo-seahorse nemo-share nemo-rabbitvcs nemo-terminal

Install Nemo Preview Extension for Nemo in Ubuntu 13.10/13.04/12.10, First add PPA then install(Not available for 12.04):

sudo apt-get install nemo-preview

Nemo creates desktop icons, you can remove them with this command:

Terminal Command:
gsettings set org.nemo.desktop home-icon-visible false; gsettings set org.nemo.desktop trash-icon-visible false; gsettings set org.nemo.desktop computer-icon-visible false; gsettings set org.nemo.desktop volumes-visible false

To remove Nemo and PPA, Enter following commands:

Terminal Commands:
sudo apt-get autoremove nemo nemo-*
sudo apt-get install ppa-purge
sudo ppa-purge ppa:noobslab/mint
sudo apt-get update
